Kenny Scharf TV Takeover
To celebrate our collaboration with Kenny Scharf in the new issue of Purple Fashion magazine, we asked the Brooklyn-based artist to takeover Purple TV. Scharf, who rose to prominence alongside his friends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat in the New York City’s East Village art scene of the 80s, was one of the first artists to inject elements of street culture into mainstream contemporary art. Growing up in California in the 1960s, Scharf was fascinated by TV and the era’s conception of the future. The Flintstones and The Jetsons influenced his work and figure prominently in his pop surrealist style. In 2001 he even released a cartoon of his own called “The Groovenians” produced by Cartoon Network Studios. Photo Magnus Unnar from Purple Fashion issue 24
