What’s the story of fado? Where does it come from? Is it specifically Portuguese? CARMINHO — As far as we know, fado was born more or less 200 years ago in Portugal. It’s an urban culture that came from the poorest neighborhoods near the ports and the prostitutes and the merchants. It was born from the marginal side of society.
