theory EMANUELE COCCIA WE ARE THE WORLD We are obsessed with death and aging, and yet we pay very little attention to birth, to what happens when we are born, to the traces that such an event leaves on our bodies and in our souls. And yet it is precisely at that moment that the disparate set of things, elements, and people is organized into something unitary, becomes a world. It is only at birth and only because we are born that people, places, air, water, fire, memories, dreams, and lies belong to each other, become consistent, flesh of the same flesh. It is only because we are born that we build something like a cosmos. I forgot I was born. Yet it is only because we are born that we are in the world. To have birth means to be nothing but a reconfiguration, a metamorphosis of something else….
