Richard Prince is one of our favorite artists. He reappropriates American pop culture, from advertising to cars, Beat literature to pulp imagery, magazine pictures to Instagram posts. He is also a serious collector of modern manuscripts, signed first editions, and rare books. His love for printed matter made him an ideal contributor to Purple, writing texts, shooting fashion stories, and publishing books with us.
For this issue, Richard gave us a preview of #NewPaintings, an ongoing series of Instagram pictures of young painters taking selfies while they work. He posts comments on their feed under a fake Instagram profile, takes a screenshot, and blows it up onto a large canvas.
