Rei Kawakubo founded Comme des Garçons in 1969 in Tokyo and began presenting her collections in Paris in the early ’80s. Her shows remain among the most anticipated of Paris Fashion Week. Few designers have achieved such creative longevity as Kawakubo, who is still brilliantly subversive and relevant.
When we started Purple, the cult Japanese designer was one of the first to trust and embrace the magazine’s vision. We still feel privileged to be able to shoot her collections.
