Candida Höfer is renowned for her striking large-scale photographs of empty public interiors — libraries, theaters, museums, palaces, churches — captured with perfect symmetry and architectural precision. Shooting alone in the space, she avoids staging, letting each location speak. Her cool, detached images offer a meditative reflection on spaces designed for thought and memory.
ALEPH MOLINARI — What camera do you use? Is it always the same, or does it change with the subject you shoot?
CANDIDA HÖFER — For shooting large images, I use an ALPA 12 XY MKII with a digital back. For smaller images, I use a Sony handheld camera. I’m not so interested in technical camera details. I…
