los angeles light and space dewain valentine DeWain Valentine is associated with the California Light and Space group — Larry Bell, James Turrell, Craig Kauffman, and Doug Wheeler — whose stripped-down sculptural process favored light and immateriality over New York Minimalism’s industrial structures. Working with a chemical engineer, he found a way to make large pieces of resin that would not crack. Valentine then has to intensely car-wax the surface so that it looks like a natural, translucent solid. All artworks courtesy of the artist and Almine Rech Gallery, Copyright ADAGP, Paris, 2018
