los angeles joshua tree andrea zittel In 2000, California artist Andrea Zittel started buying land near Joshua Tree in the Mojave Desert, a four-hour drive from Los Angeles. This landscape became the context of her domestic living experience, A-Z West. There, she expanded her art-for-life work from clothes and interiors to bungalows and entire living systems, each tailor-fit to different needs, each befitting her sense of self-sufficiency, community consciousness, and environmentalism as an art form.
