For the inaugural exhibition at the fantastic new gallery space, Almine Rech presents Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone‘s body of work ‘Pure Moonlight’. Playing with optical illusions, Rondinone represents the different stages of the moon in hues varying from blue to silver. The blurred hazy outlines of concentric rings at varying width create an unsettling effect that challenges the viewers gaze. In addition to these large scale wall paintings are 30 lead-filled bronze candles to reinforce ideas of light and artificial light, time being suspended, and combining the spectacular with the ordinary which is something that features throughtout Rondinone’s work. ‘Pure Moonlight’ is on view until April 12th at Almine Rech, 64 rue de Turenne, 75003, Paris.
