“Tomato Head” dissects cultural mythologies with gleeful subversion, unmasking the grotesque behind America’s polished façade. The exhibition draws from pop iconography to probe consumerism, identity, and societal constraints. Through oversized forms and meticulous craftsmanship, McCarthy twists familiar figures into unsettling commentary, juxtaposing humor with stark critique. The work’s visceral energy, coupled with explorations of self-iteration and artificiality, challenges the illusion of choice, revealing the dark undercurrents of the so-called “American Dream”.
