The Happy Prince by Ryan Gander
Inspired by the childrens story The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde, a relationship between a swallow and a prince, the european artist Ryan Gander makes a lyrical sculpture of ruin on view outside the Doris C. Freedman plaza. The sculpture is an echoe of the climax final scene of the novel, when the Prince’s heart, sword, helmet, and the body of the dead swallow, lay amidst the debris. The Happy Prince is on view outside Doris C. Freedman, Central Park, until April 10, 2011, New York. Text Pierre-Alexandre Mateos
