The retrospective is a powerful journey through three decades of portraits that explore identity in its most vulnerable and transformative states. From her iconic “Beach Portraits” to the evolving series “Almerisa” of a young refugee’s path into adulthood, Dijkstra captures intimate moments with profound empathy, drawing out both the resilience and fragility of her subjects. Her large-format camera work accentuates each detail, framing identity as both a personal and collective narrative. The exhibit invites reflection on authenticity and self-representation—timely themes in an age of ubiquitous self-documentation through “selfies” and social media.
