For his first New York solo exhibition in over twenty years, artist and poet Rene Ricard
presents a small but vibrant selection of works on canvas. The
figurative imagery pulls from Ricard’s friends’ family photo albums
overlaid with longer texts scrawled across the faces and bodies. The
standouts in the one room gallery are Ricard’s short poems presented on
painted green linen with red text. Sonnets From the Portuguese, is Vito Schanbel’s second exhibit with Ricard following a 2008 London show.
Sonnets from the Portuguese by Rene Ricard presented by Vito Schnabel, is on view at the Vito Schnabel Gallery, 522 West 23rd Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
