Art Production Fund takes over an empty lot on 46th Street and 8th Avenue for their latest project featuring artist Kiki Smith. The free-standing stained glass stars create a provocative dialogue with the dirt, pavement and chainlink fence which surround them. Often Smith’s installations and gallery exhibitions focus on the use of stained glass as a traditional means to present contemporary content. For Chorus, Smith reflects the Times Square location and its history of spectacle, sex and music by incorporating imagery related to the late singer Josephine Baker and the suggestion of the contrived nature of performance and sexuality. On view through September 4th 2012 at 46th Street and 8th Avenue, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
