Jon Kessler’s The Blue Period references Guy Debord’s Society as Spectacle and plays with false appearances to create a submissive viewer experience. Fake surveillance cameras spin around the room while life-like human cut outs confront the visitors. Kessler’s play between static objects and movement is especially provocative. The exhibition feels interactive but the viewer has no control. On view through March 10th 2012 at Salon 94, 243 Bowery, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
