Exclusive shots from Imitation of Christ’s Relaunch 2020 titled “Americans Not Allowed in Paris”.
Originally conceived as an art collective in 2000, Imitation of Christ was founded by former art students Tara Subkoff and Matthew Damhave. Subkoff had dropped out of art school and had worked as an actress prior to forming the project. The project, according to Subkoff, was quickly “confused” by many to be a fashion line, which led to her developing runway shows. Their shows were often theatrical, political and guerilla style.
Tara Subkoff has relaunched the brand with three young artists Lulu Syracuse, Jersey Bond, and Hudson Schaetzke — creating hand-sewn looks from vintage clothing from their closets, and staging a protest show in her backyard overlooking the iconic Hollywood sign.
The looks are being auctioned on the brand’s Instagram to benefit Direct Relief, Fridays for Future and Black Lives Matter.
