In this exhibition, Cohen presents work from three separate projects: “Women,” a six-year undertaking she self-funded through commercial work; “Hello, My Name Is,” a series of self-portraits that do not act as self-explorations, but rather as documentations of the vastly diverse fictional characters she has created; and finally an immersive installation of never-before-seen video work.
Cinematographically inspired, each image awakens a strong sense of ‘before’ and ‘after,’ allowing the viewer to catch Cohen’s characters —however much dressed, made and lit up— in a flickering moment of truth.
“Hello, My Name Is” is on view now until July 9 at Jeffrey Deitch, 925 North Orange Drive, Los Angeles
