The inaugural exhibition at The Arsenal Contemporary New York, “Finiliars”, presents adorable animated characters who react to complex data systems. In the case of this exhibition three cartoons are linked to the real-time value of different currencies: Canadian Dollar, the British Pound Sterling and Ethereum. Ed Fornieles explores an interface to convey emotional connections for largely invisible data. He questions the use of these characters as marketing tools for brand identity, fantastic creatures which need to be cared for, and the metaphysical attempt of an artist to shape perception.
On view until April 23rd at The Arsenal Contemporary New York, 214 Bowery, New York.
