Vo’s work refers to the image of the United States, the residue of colonial occupation and focuses on the notion of freedom in different guises exploring the duality of myths and symbols that frame the nation’s identity. At the same time, his work questions the very idea that culture can be contained by national boundaries, revealing instead an entity in constant flux, subject to transformative processes of migration and exchange.
On view until May 9th, 2018 at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 5th Ave, New York.
