“As if perhaps the works are ‘formed’ out of ‘sight’ and ‘without’ mind, somehow?
Or perhaps best to invoke the ‘Sonic Aspect’ of the works:
Chandeliers are ‘driven’ by signals generated by my piano playing (duet)…
The ‘Glass Speaker’ assemblage reflects a fractured text and provides ’accompaniment’…
The flutes function as some Orphic Automaton.”
Cerith Wyn Evans, 2017
Cerith Wyn Evans‘ work plays with the visible and the invisible, the material and the immaterial. It questions the viewer’s perception by offering a synestesia-like experience blending sound and light together. To use Molly Nesbit’s words, Cerith Wyn Evans’ latest exhibition is “a rendez-vous of questions marks.”
On view until July, 28th 2017 at Marian Goodman Gallery, 79 Rue du Temple, 75003 Paris.
