“Bathers,” an exhibition by Louise Bonnet at Galerie Max Hetzler, Paris
The new series references a well-known trope in the history of art. Here, Bonnet’s treatment of the nude body owes much to Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), with chromatic variations from pink to blue in the depictions of the flesh, which are very like his treatment of the nude, and compositions echoing such masterpieces as The Judgement of Paris (c. 1632-1635).
