Barbara Kasten and Justin Beal’s works blur the lines of materials and forms. Alongside Beal’s sexualized metal cast fruits and vegetables, the artists present wall-mounted works which function as experiments in three dimensional space. Kasten use light and folds to challenge the viewer’s perception of depth. Beal’s rubber covered canvases viewed from afar appear flat and minimal. Upon closer inspection, the works reveal jutting unknown objects. On view through August 3rd 2012 at Bortolami, 520 West 20th Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
