Ricocheting between design and fine art, if LA-based creative Bari Ziperstein isn’t whipping up ceramic sculptures, Victorian Bust Lamps or Brutalist Vases, then the CalArts graduate is working on assorted private commissions and collaborations (one of which, a Lady Finger Vase inspired by her mother’s meticulous manicures throughout her childhood, debuts later this week at U.S retail mecca Ten Over Six). “Its just what I do” says Ziperstein, on acknowledging the conceptual thread that runs throughout her work. “For me its about fluent shifts between my design objects and my gallery work as a fine artist creating large scale installation pieces and public art.” From her Eagle Rock studio surrounded by vast mountain-ranges, her key influences take shape, among them Cold War Brutalist Architecture and historic propaganda posters.
